AI Disclosure
Effective date: 9 June 2026
Tradie Texts uses artificial intelligence to help trade businesses respond to missed calls by SMS. This statement explains how AI is used and how that use should be disclosed.
1. Why disclosure is required
People should not be misled into thinking they are texting a human in real time when replies are generated by an AI or automated system. Clear disclosure helps reduce risk under the Australian Consumer Law, supports APP transparency obligations, and sets realistic expectations for callers.
2. What is automated
The Service may automatically:
- Send a first SMS after a missed call;
- Generate SMS replies using a third-party AI model;
- Extract lead information such as suburb, job type, urgency and summary notes;
- Flag likely emergency language for the business owner; and
- Pause or escalate conversations based on keywords, moderation checks, plan limits or business
settings.
AI replies are generated on behalf of the trade business. They are not professional advice, not an emergency dispatch service, and not a guarantee that the business has accepted the job.
3. Required caller-facing disclosure
The first automated SMS should disclose that the interaction is with an AI assistant or automated assistant. The current default recovery greeting is:
"Hi, this is [Business]. Sorry we missed your call. You're texting our AI assistant. What can we
help with today? Reply STOP to opt out."
If a business supplies a custom greeting, the Service should ensure AI disclosure is still present unless the custom greeting already includes equivalent wording such as "AI assistant" or "automated assistant".
For longer conversations, a one-time disclosure in the first automated SMS is the recommended minimum. A business may repeat or expand the disclosure where the context is higher risk, such as urgent safety issues, vulnerable customers, regulated services, or collection of sensitive information.
4. Customer configuration rules
Customers must not configure prompts, personas or greetings that:
- Claim the AI is the individual tradie or a human staff member;
- Hide or remove AI disclosure;
- Imply the AI can make binding quotes, bookings, emergency decisions or professional judgments;
- Ask for unnecessary sensitive information; or
- Pressure callers to continue by SMS instead of calling 000 in emergencies.
5. Accuracy and human responsibility
AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or inappropriate. The Customer is responsible for reviewing lead information and verifying facts before relying on it. Tradie Texts should maintain reasonable controls such as emergency keyword detection, moderation, rate limiting and human handoff paths, but those controls do not remove the Customer's responsibility for the customer relationship.
6. Suggested short disclosure variants
Use one of these in SMS or adjacent customer notices:
- "You're texting our AI assistant."
- "Replies are handled by an AI assistant for [Business]."
- "This automated assistant helps [Business] collect job details."
Do not use wording such as "I'm Dean" or "This is your tradie" unless a human is actually sending the message.
